Your local host: Rede de Guias de Santiago
We are a network of 12 guides and host families distributed across the key points of Santiago. We coordinate together so that each day of the circuit is in the hands of those who truly know the terrain: the Porto Mosquito fisherman takes you by boat, the São Domingos trekker climbs Monte Tchota with you, and the Tarrafal family welcomes you as if you were family. It is slow, networked, and fair tourism.
FAQ
- What is the overall difficulty level?
- Moderate. There are 4 days with trekking of 4–5h and elevations up to 500m, but without technical passages. Suitable for those who hike regularly. Recommended age: 14+ years.
- Can I do the circuit on private dates?
- Yes. For groups of 4 or more people, we organize private departures on dates of your choice. Please let us know your preferred dates and we will confirm the availability of local partners.
- Is trekking experience required?
- No, but good physical condition and appropriate trekking footwear are necessary. Before each stage, the guide gives a detailed briefing and adjusts the pace to the group.
- What happens in case of bad weather?
- In Santiago the probability of cancellation is low (dry climate almost all year round). If the boat trip is cancelled due to rough seas, we replace it with an equivalent coastal hike.
- How does payment support Santiago?
- Over 70% stays on the island: it pays 12 families and partner guides, rural houses, fishermen, natural park associations and contributes to the maintenance of the Monte Tchota and Serra Malagueta trails.
